NOAA Weather Radio

NOAA Weather Radio was established in select cities during the 1950's and Nationwide during the 1970's. It is a network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information from nearby National Weather Service offices. In addition to weather alerts they may broadcast alerts concerning National Security, Environmental and other public service alerts.

These broadcasts operate on one of the following frequencies
162.400

MHz
162.425

I consider it prudent for all households to have a weather radio of some type in the home. Preferably it would be of the type that is battery operated so as to be useful in the event of electrical outages. Most modern scanners include a Weather search that will allow you to find one or more NWS stations in your area.
